The GOALS Program
The GOALS (Growing Opportunities and Learning Skills) mentor program was developed in direct response to an idea raised by the Department of Education and Training, and Principals from High Schools to give opportunities for Year 10 students to learn about different industries and occupations in Western Australian businesses.

There were 16 students involved in the GOALS program in 2008. Students were paired with a business professional and would attend one session a month where they would meet with their mentor in a group session and discuss different topics such as ‘Creative and Innovative Thinking’, ‘Fun with Finance’ and ‘Building Relationships and Confidence’. These sessions would be hosted by member companies at venues all around Perth, including the Perth Zoo, His Majesty’s Theatre and in the Bank West Tower.

The student would attend an excursion in the morning before the mentor session. These included the Peters Brownes Icecream Factory, the Perth Mint, the Fremantle Prison and the Coca Cola Factory.

This program has proven to be a great success and students confidence has increased as well as a deeper understanding of the working world.
